What the hell is that supposed to mean?

It depends how small you slice the potatoes first.

Not really. Its not very challenging to cook.

[identity profile] r-vecchio.livejournal.com 2007-03-15 02:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, true. But if you slice 'em small in our house, you're gonna be slicing for a long, long time.

Potatoes can be fancy...

[identity profile] in-a-chinashop.livejournal.com 2007-03-15 02:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Who does most of the cooking in your household?

Indeed. Just not so much mashed ones.

[identity profile] r-vecchio.livejournal.com 2007-03-15 02:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Mostly my Ma. But if any of us are unlucky enough to be in the kitchen at the time, we get roped into it. Or blackmailed. Or guilt-tripped.

You haven't tried my ones.

[identity profile] in-a-chinashop.livejournal.com 2007-03-15 02:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Your Ma shouldn't have to guilt-trip you into helping her. How many people are there in the household to have to cook for?

Really?

[identity profile] r-vecchio.livejournal.com 2007-03-15 04:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Don't make me feel bad, Ren, she likes cooking! Sure, she likes cooking with her family more but most of the time, I'm still at work when she starts. Uh, okay, well, me, one, Frannie, two, Maria, Tony, their three kids, that makes seven. My brother's kids stay sometimes so that's another two, then my Ma. So...ten.

Pretty sure you've never tasted them, yeah.

[identity profile] in-a-chinashop.livejournal.com 2007-03-15 09:28 pm (UTC)(link)
That's a large number of people to cook for everyday, I imagine it must take some precision to time everything to finish at the same time. I don't suppose your Ma would be willing to share a few tips some time, would she?

No, I've not tried them. I meant are they really that tasty?

[identity profile] r-vecchio.livejournal.com 2007-03-15 09:41 pm (UTC)(link)
My mother's great at that stuff, comes with the Italian blood. You kiddin' me? She'd love it.

Oh yeah. *grin* They rival my polenta.

[identity profile] in-a-chinashop.livejournal.com 2007-03-15 10:04 pm (UTC)(link)
I'd enjoy that too. I'd be happy to help her prepare a meal, even. I've never really experienced a family mealtime, cooking for such a number would be a real treat. Of course, I'd leave once the table is set, I'd hate for you to think that I'm inviting myself into your household.

I wasn't aware that you cooked, Ray.

[identity profile] r-vecchio.livejournal.com 2007-03-15 10:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Invite away. You help with the cooking and my Ma won't let you outta the hosue for a week. Seriously. You could stay, I'm sure.

Italian. I'm Italian, Ren. If I couldn't cook, I wouldn't be a real Vecch- actually, Frannie can't cook so that doesn't really, uh...Yes, I can cook.

[identity profile] in-a-chinashop.livejournal.com 2007-03-15 11:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, thank you! Is there lots of stimulating conversation during your meals? It must be wonderful.

Do you enjoy cooking?

(ooc: *pets her poor lonely muse*)

[identity profile] r-vecchio.livejournal.com 2007-03-15 11:07 pm (UTC)(link)
If by stimulating conversation you mean yelling, arguing and name calling, then yeah, there's lots and lots of it.

Depends what kind of mood I'm in, I guess.

[ooc: *pets with you* :D]

[identity profile] in-a-chinashop.livejournal.com 2007-03-15 11:33 pm (UTC)(link)
How wonderful!

Cooking normally puts me in a good mood, no matter the state of mind I began in.

[identity profile] r-vecchio.livejournal.com 2007-03-15 11:37 pm (UTC)(link)
...You're a nut, Ren.

What if you can't be bothered to cook? Or are too whacked from work?

[identity profile] in-a-chinashop.livejournal.com 2007-03-15 11:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Mealtimes back home were mostly silent affairs.

I never can't "be bothered" to cook. Although, sometimes I do fall asleep before I have the chance and just don't eat that evening.

[identity profile] in-a-chinashop.livejournal.com 2007-03-16 12:06 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, I made a mouthwatering pizza a few weeks ago, using sundried tomatoes in place of tomato puree!

[identity profile] r-vecchio.livejournal.com 2007-03-16 12:20 am (UTC)(link)
Maybe I should re-word it... Uh...

Take-out.

[identity profile] in-a-chinashop.livejournal.com 2007-03-16 12:29 am (UTC)(link)
Oh.

It feels like cheating.

[identity profile] r-vecchio.livejournal.com 2007-03-16 12:33 am (UTC)(link)
It's a treat, Turnbull. Sit in front of the TV...if you have one...stick on the Bulls, kick back with a slice of pizza...what's better?

When was the last time you had take-out?

[identity profile] in-a-chinashop.livejournal.com 2007-03-16 09:19 pm (UTC)(link)
I did actually purchase a television, Ray, after..... I don't watch it much, though, except for curling and nature programs.

I've never ordered take-out for myself.

[identity profile] r-vecchio.livejournal.com 2007-03-16 09:46 pm (UTC)(link)
...You did? Hey, my advice must be pretty good then. But there's more out there than just the Discovery Channel, Ren.

Are you kidding me?

[ooc: OMG! *heart melts...all over his freakin' Italian leather shoes!! Aww, man* Way to break my muse ^_^]

[identity profile] in-a-chinashop.livejournal.com 2007-03-16 10:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, it has proven worth having. The DVD player is a wonderful addition as well. Sometimes, if I'm fortunate, I catch some televised opera on one of the channels. What would you recommend, Ray?

It seems like quite a lonely thing to do, ordering food for just myself.

(ooc: *sends Ren to get a mop* Heh. I bought a little packet of spiced tea leaves from Whitards. It smells gorgeous, it tastes pretty good... But there's these bits floating in it, big, chunky bits, and I don't know if I'm meant to eat them....Ren's not helping, telling me I'm unlikely to die from trying....)
