charloft Omission
Aug. 27th, 2009 05:41 pm"Spot the deliberate mistake." Welsh, sounding as rough around the edges as Ray felt, tossed the report back on his desk.
"Sir, you're killing me here." His desk was already piled with reports waiting to be done. "I can't take on any more."
"Oh, no, no," Welsh nudged the open report in front of his detective, "this isn't new. You handed this in an hour ago." A chubby finger prodded the writing, smudging the ink. "Notice anything?"
Air left Ray's lungs in a desperate sigh. "A carjacking. Standard report."
"All questions asked and answered, hmm?" Welsh began rearranging the pencils on the desk into straight lines.
"You know me, sir. Ever the thorough one."
"What's the plate number?"
Ray wanted to tell his Lieutenant to use his own eyes but his bit his tongue, instead looking himself. "It's...." Another scan of the report and Ray's eyes slowly closed. "I uh..."
"Didn't ask." Welsh pocketed one of Ray's pencils and turned back to his office. "Ring them, rewrite and get your head screwed on straight. I want it back on my desk in twenty minutes."
